Medical Devices Problems

A study has shown that medical devices used at home are among one of the worst culprits of causing problems. One of the most common problems are contact lenses causing infections or damage to the eyes be being left in too long without being properly cleaned. It is reported that many children every year attend hospital with an eye infection or damaged eye from contact lenses.

The study also revealed that another common problem among children was puncture wounds from hypodermic needles. Again, it is reported that many thousands of children every year attend hospital with such problems.

Chest catheters are another serious problem the report claims. Young cancer patients are often sent home with a chest catheter while they are receiving chemotherapy. However, there is always a risk that the catheter will become damaged or even worse, infected. The study shows that thousands of young cancer patients are arriving at hospital with infected or damaged catheters every single year.

However, these devices are important in allowing the young patients to live as normally as possible and receive treatment at home. It can be a very challenging thing for parents to keep on top of. This is why it is important for everyone to recognize warning signs and ensure that the risk of things becoming infected or damaged is a lesser one.

The risk is always going to be there but there are things that can be done to ensure that the patient is not in any danger.
